Documenting Oregon’s Trail of Tears: Historic Photography

Nolan Streitberger will share unique photos from his project documenting the history that led up to the removal of Native Americans from their homelands after the Rogue River War in 1856. Using technology from the 1850s known as wet plate collodion photography, Streitberger documented the trail using an antique wooden camera.

Nolan Streitberger
Nolan Streitberger is an artist from Albany, Oregon working in the medium of photography. Nolan uses the wet plate collodion photo process from the 1850s. Nolan has been selected as a Critical Mass 2023 winner with his ongoing project, “Oregon’s Trail of Tears”. He has previously been featured in Musee Magazine, Der Spiegal, Bento, Flavorwire, Edge of Humanity Magazine, and SHOTS Magazine. He has been selected for recognition by the Smithsonian Photography Awards and the Palm Springs Photo Festival. He has exhibited at the Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, Colorado Photographic Arts Center in Denver, PhotoPlace Gallery in Vermont, and LoosenArt in Millepiani Gallery in Rome Italy.
