Sap In Their Veins: Portraits of Loggers and The Trees They Fell

David Paule Bayles shares how visual storytelling and oral histories encourage us to notice how forests connect us.

In the mid-seventies, Bayles worked four years as a logger. He returned to the forest a decade later to capture portraits and record oral histories of his fellow loggers. This project introduces us to men who loved the forests in which they’ve spent, and sometimes risked, or lost, their lives. With today’s mechanized forestry, Bayles’ work is a testament to a disappearing chapter of logging.

Copies of Sap in Their Viens: Portraits of Loggers and the Trees They Fell will be available for purchase at both of our museum stores.

This lecture will be presented at the Corvallis Museum. Please email the Executive Director at jessica@bentoncountymuseums.org to reserve a limited quantity assistive listening device.
