Join experts from Marys Peak Alliance for a guided hike: A Geological Exploration of the Ice Age Ecology Preserved on Marys Peak!
Marys Peak is like an “island-in-the-sky,” isolating Noble fir forests and subalpine meadows that were once much more widespread in the Oregon Coast Range. This 1-mile hike, with 350 feet elevation gain, explores geological features and processes that formed the peak and help maintain its Ice Age ecology.
This program is a partnership with Marys Peak Alliance. The hike will be led by Dr. Robert J. (Bob) Lillie. There is no cost to register for the hike, but there is a $5 parking fee for vehicles at the trailhead. More details including meeting spot, will be provided upon registration.
A lecture on this same topic will be given at the Corvallis Museum on Thursday, August 28th. More information and lecture registration here.
Dr. Robert J. (Bob) Lillie is a retired geology professor and park ranger. He has written and illustrated several books about the formation of park and forest lands around the country, including "Oregon's Island in the Sky: Geology Road Guide to Marys Peak."
