From Dr. Alan L. Hart, one of the first trans men in the United States to undergo gender-affirming surgery, to contemporary activists like Dharma Mirza, these stories reflect a rich and diverse legacy of queer presence in Oregon.
We use modern terminology like “queer” and “transgender” to honor identities as we understand them today, while recognizing that language evolves. This exhibit is a tribute to both named and unnamed individuals who dared to live their truths, leaving lasting impressions on the communities they touched and the history they helped create.
