The Corvallis Art Guild presents: Refuge: Where Life Endures

Every living thing seeks safety.

Eighty years ago local artists found shelter together making art, after enduring years of trauma during World War II. The Corvallis Art Guild emerged as a fertile focus of community creation, and its membership has stayed vital ever since. The Guild collaborated with more than twenty other Corvallis-area groups to birth what is now known as The Arts Center, continues to display members’ art widely in the area, and its annual Clothesline Sale of Art will have its 63rd run in Corvallis Central Park on Saturday, August 1.

Hundreds of artists’ persistence, commitment, and creativity has lifted community spirits for eight decades, inspiring neighbors to live richer cultural lives, and celebrating the beauty of our incredible local environment.

This year’s show theme is Refuge: Where Life Endures.

In challenging times, shelter can be hard to find.

Over the last eighty years the names have changed, but the challenges are the same – and ever more urgent. How, now, shall we live? When words aren’t enough, how can we express our truths? How do we visualize our deepest yearnings? What does safety look like for each of us? These are the universal questions Guild artists explore in the new works collected here.

Reception: May 8, 2026 | 5PM – 7PM at the Philomath Museum.
