The Benton County Historical Society is honored to partner with the Corvallis Hiroshima Nagasaki Commemoration Committee to host a powerful and thought-provoking exhibit from the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in Japan.
On view from July 26 through August 10, 2025, this special exhibition coincides with the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings and serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of war and the enduring call for peace.
BCHS is seeking $1,800 in sponsorships to help bring this exhibit to life. Your support will allow us to print and professionally mount the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum’s poster panels on durable foam-core board for long-term reuse, and to purchase 30 easels for display.
In addition to the poster exhibit, we will feature a community art installation created by local artist Maureen Frank, The Mandala Lady. Visitors will be invited to contribute by coloring and writing their reflections, creating a shared expression of peace, reflection, and remembrance.
During the run of this exhibit, the Corvallis Hiroshima Nagasaki Commemoration Committee will host the annual Hiroshima Nagasaki Commemoration and Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to dusk, with the program beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Howland Plaza (200 SW 1st St, Corvallis, OR 97333).
On Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 1:00–3:00 p.m., the Corvallis Museum will host Family Peace Day, a community event with hands on activities for all ages to promote peace and remembrance. Activities include origami, music, and story time.
